Praia, Cape Verde - The Government of Cape Verde has criticized Televisão de Cabo Verde (TCV) for not broadcasting live the inauguration ceremony of the Monument to Democracy and Freedom, held on January 13 in Praia, despite a prior agreement to cover the event.

According to information from the government, the broadcast was planned for the national territory and for TCV's international signal, allowing the resident population and the Cape Verdean diaspora to follow the ceremony. However, the live broadcast did not take place and no public explanation was given by the public television station.

According to the Executive, all the technical and logistical conditions necessary for the broadcast were in place. Since the day before the event, TCV's technical teams were on site, with equipment installed and a journalist assigned to ensure the live broadcast.

The government also said that other television channels were willing to broadcast the ceremony live, both nationally and internationally. These proposals were rejected by the Government's Communication and Image Office, on the basis of the commitment previously made to TCV.

The Executive stresses that this is not the first time that public television has failed to provide coverage of government events considered relevant, without providing clarification to the country.

In view of the situation, the government is calling on Cape Verde Television to provide clarification on the failure to broadcast the event and to reinforce compliance with its responsibilities as a public service media outlet.
